Goa Remains on Alert as Heavy Rain Persists Across the State
Goa continues to witness intermittent spells of heavy rainfall, with several regions, particularly in the north, experiencing prolonged showers and cloudy skies. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has maintained a yellow alert across the state, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. The current weather pattern is a result of the combined influence of two active systems the remnants of Cyclone Montha over coastal Andhra Pradesh and a depression persisting over the east-central Arabian Sea. This unique interaction between the two systems has resulted in a sustained period of wet weather over the Konkan coast, bringing cooler temperatures and widespread cloud cover across the region.
Dual Weather Systems Causing Extended Rainfall
Meteorological experts explain that Goa currently lies between the dissipating cyclonic circulation over land and a convective system over the Arabian Sea, leading to continuous moisture convergence and the development of dense cloud masses. Satellite analysis from INSAT-3DS indicates a thick band of cloud activity stretching across Goa and adjoining coastal areas. The interaction between these weather systems has generated intermittent rain and localized thunderstorms, which are likely to continue for the next couple of days. This extended monsoon-like phase has also led to a significant drop in daytime temperatures, while humidity levels remain high due to the persistent presence of moisture in the atmosphere.
Cooler Conditions and Increased Humidity
In recent observations, Panaji recorded lower daytime temperatures around 25°C with relative humidity levels nearing 98%. The persistent rainfall and light southeasterly winds have created cooler, overcast conditions across coastal and inland areas, typical of post-cyclonic interactions.

Authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution in low-lying regions and coastal belts, where localised flooding or waterlogging may occur. Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea as rough conditions prevail. State emergency teams, disaster management cells, and local administrations remain on alert to manage any weather-related disruptions
