IndiGo Flight Disruptions: DGCA Oversight and 4,600 Cancellations Explained

India’s aviation sector has been witnessing widespread turbulence over the past week following a series of disruptions in IndiGo’s operations. As cancellations crossed the 4,600 mark within nine days, concerns grew among passengers and regulators about the scale, cause, and consequences of the crisis. In an internal directive, the aviation regulator constituted an oversight team to be stationed at IndiGo’s corporate office in Gurugram. The order highlighted the necessity of enhanced monitoring “in view of passenger inconvenience caused due to large-scale disruptions in operations.”

The panel will analyze operational data, crew deployment, and compliance with FDTL norms. It will also work to identify structural gaps within the airline’s scheduling systems that may have contributed to cascading cancellations. The intervention underscores the government’s increasing emphasis on operational resilience in India’s rapidly growing aviation market.
